Jayden Bogle: Leeds United’s Rocket-Fuelled Right-Back
I’ve gotta admit, I was interested when we brought Bogle in – and from our rivals (Sheffield United) as well. I mean, he got relegated from the Premier League with them, so, for me, the jury was still out, though on paper, his statistics looked good.

He looked to have all of the attributes needed to succeed at this level especially his pace and to be fair, he was decent with the Blades in the Championship as well. Showing that he is also capable of chipping in with a goal and with a pretty good delivery on him, this encouraged me, especially given the way we play and, we did need an outlet on the right from deep. It is fair to say, I think he has more than justified his price tag.
Bogle A Solid Right Back
What he showed me within a few games is that he was probably the best in his position in the Championship, or at least, one of the most all-round right backs. We’d missed someone like that since Luke Ayling was in his prime and Bogle started to show that he could be a suitable replacement.
It always gets me a bit though when a Championship club signs a relegated player – particularly for a substantial price tag because I usually think ‘well if they go up, he’s proven he can’t cut it’, but obviously, development of maturity and experience play a part, as well as improvement.
To say he came from our rivals, we the fans have treated him well to be fair – afterall, there really hasn’t been anything wrong with his performances – probably for a period one of our most consistent players without setting the world alight.

Yeah, he’s made the odd mistake, but he’s always willing to work and when you’re in a Leeds shirt, we can forgive the odd error pretty quickly if you play with your heart on your sleeve.
I always thought Ayling was unlucky not to get an England call-up – even in the Championship he appeared to be one of the best right backs in the country at the time and I thought he deserved a shot – especially when he showed his class in the Prem. I’m interested to see if Bogle can go one step better – he’s already turned out for the England Under 20 side and there’s no reason why he can’t go one better for the Three Lions.
It’s a position that has been made glamorous over the last few years with Kyle Walker (under the instruction of Pep Guardiola) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (again with Jurgen Klopp), both of them being turned into ‘inverted full/wing backs’ – basically a central midfielder in possession and I think Bogle probably has the raw ability to showcase a similar trajectory from what I’ve seen from him so far.
